My Philosophy of Birth

Birth works best when we’re not messing with it, in the vast majority of cases.

I came to this truth through both observation and experience. Before becoming a mother, I trained as a doula and immersed myself in birth work — sitting with women, learning from birth itself. But it wasn’t long before I began to see the heartbreaking reality: that true physiological birth — birth in its full power — isn’t supported within the medical model.

So when I conceived my daughter, I chose a different path — a wild pregnancy and a freebirth at home, with just my partner present. And in that quiet, intimate space, I experienced birth in its purest form: blissful, straightforward, relatively easy and completely euphoric. I experienced the full effects of the hormonal blueprint, that which nature so brilliantly designed — the same one available to all birthing mammals, when the conditions are right.

As Dr. Sarah Buckley explains, those conditions are simple yet crucial: privacy, safety, familiarity, and the absence of observation. When these are met, the body knows exactly what to do to complete this inherent biological process. But when women leave their dens for institutional settings with bright lights and time-pressures — surrounded by strangers and constant observation — the birth process is disrupted. What we often call “complications” are frequently the result of interference.

I believe much of what we’re told about birth is completely backwards. I want more women to know that pain, fear, and trauma are not inevitable — that birth can be deeply satisfying, powerful, and transformative when we allow the woman and her body to lead.

Physiological birth isn’t just about avoiding unnecessary interventions. It’s about honouring the delicate cascade of hormonal interactions between the mother and baby, which are not only responsible for the optimal unfolding of birth, but help to foster deep love, connection, breastfeeding and nervous system regulation—critical for the wellbeing of Motherbaby and a solid foundation for motherhood.

This is what I’m here to protect and honour — for myself, for my daughter, and for the women I walk beside.

What is Sovereign Birth?

“Sovereign birth” is the choice to birth entirely outside of the medical system — usually at home (or wherever she is) without a registered medical provider present.

It’s a conscious departure from a system rooted in fear, control and authority over women’s bodies — an invitation to reclaim birth as a natural, spontaneous, instinctive and sacred rite of passage. Most importantly sovereign birth is guided by the birthing woman’s inner knowing and truth, not external protocols or interventions.

Sovereign birth isn’t about rejecting support — it’s about reclaiming yourself as the sole authority and taking full responsibility over your body, your baby, and your birth. It’s about choosing support that truly aligns with your values and vision.

Women are choosing sovereign birth to:

𖦹 Return to their innate power

𖦹 Say no to coercion & unnecessary intervention

𖦹 Reclaim birth as a physiological, undisturbed process

𖦹 Honour the spiritual & energetic dimensions of birth

𖦹 Protect the hormonal blueprint of undisturbed birth

𖦹 Be witnessed — not managed

𖦹 Birth in the presence of only those they love & trust, on their own terms, in their own time

It often feels strange that we even need labels like “sovereign birth” or “freebirth” — when really, this is just birth.
The way women have birthed since time immemorial, long before the modern medical system took hold.

Sovereign birth is not a trend.
It is a revolution.
A remembrance.
A homecoming to your deepest power
and the most ancient wisdom within.

About Wild Pregnancy

Like many of us, I grew up believing that pregnancy required immediate medical oversight. But the truth is — none of that is mandatory. The only thing you have to do… is simply be pregnant!

What if, instead of heading straight to the doctor, you paused to tune into your own body, your own soul, your babies soul, and asked: Does this approach truly feel right?

Choosing a wild pregnancy — a pregnancy without routine medical supervision — is a completely valid path. It’s a return to nature’s intelligence and the innate wisdom of your body and intuition.

Instead of navigating a system built on fear, protocols, and control, you’re free to let pregnancy unfold as it always has: simply, intuitively, and sacredly.

With wild pregnancy, there are no unnecessary tests or arbitrary timelines. You’re not bound by due dates or pressure to comply — you get to choose what support feels aligned, based on your inner knowing.

My own wild pregnancy was a profound initiation into motherhood. It helped me deepen my intuition, cultivate self-trust, and honour pregnancy as the sacred, everyday miracle it is. I didn’t need appointments or diagnoses to feel connected to my baby — I just needed space, stillness, and trust.

This path isn’t about right or wrong — it’s about choice. Every woman knows what’s best for herself and her baby.

If you’re feeling the quiet call to walk outside the system… you’re not alone. And you’re not wrong. You’re remembering.
